The Ministerial Search Committee (MSC) of the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship is pleased and proud to introduce the Reverend Alison Miller, our settled minister.

Alison Beth Miller is a lifelong Unitarian Universalist who holds a Masters of Divinity degree from Harvard University.  At the time of her application to divinity school she had already founded and nurtured a young adult group, now numbering 250, at the Unitarian Church of All Souls in New York City.  While in divinity school, she worked at the Unitarian Universalist Association as the Mind the Gap:  Youth and Young Adult Ministry Sunday Coordinator.  She served as an Intern Minister at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  All Souls is a dynamic congregation with over 1000 members and 600 enrolled in their children’s religious education program.  Rev. Miller is currently serving in a one-year position as the Acting Assistant Minister at the Unitarian Church of All Souls in New York City, where she is part of a ministry team.  She is a Young Adult and Campus Ministry Trainer and Workshop Leader.   She lives with her partner, David Snedden, who is also a life-long Unitarian Universalist.  Alison’s mother and brother both live in New York City.

We think her own words (from the “Ministerial Record” which she submitted through the UUA Ministerial Settlement System) will explain why we chose her:

“I aspire to work with an intergenerational religious community as their worship leader, teacher, advocate, and source of comfort and inspiration.  I am passionate about the healing power present in the message of hope our liberal faith offers the world.  My life’s experience and work so far have led to my call to serve as a Unitarian Universalist spiritual leader, and I optimistically anticipate the next step on my path.

I hope to serve as a minister in a congregation where I can listen to and partner with a community in order to deepen our spiritual lives, vision, programs and ministries.  I would love to work with a congregation that aims to make a notable difference in its congregants’ lives.  A place where people are comforted during times of sorrow, challenged and informed by complementary and competing ideas in intergenerational educational programs, and inspired by diverse forms of worship and other programming to reach the fullest potential of our lives.”

Through each step of the search process our interest in Alison increased.  We started by reading her “Ministerial Record” and then her Packet.  During the phone interview we were so excited by her answers that we were sure she would hear our expressions of joy although we tried to muffle them; the Pre-Candidating Weekend elated us all over again.  What a wonderful asset Alison will be to the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship! Her experience in all aspects of Unitarian Universalism, her intelligence, compassion, sense of humor, and commitment come through in each contact with her.

At the beginning of our search the MSC agreed that we would select a minister not settle for one.  We are thrilled that Alison Miller has also selected us.  We can't wait for her to lead us to great things! Rev. Miller’s Packet is available in the Fellowship office for you to see.

Yours in faith,

Helene Ferm, Janet Kreha, Tony Rutigliano, Stu Sendell, Carol Todd,

Annette Tyler, and Joe Uhrhane
