Our UU Rites of Passage

As Unitarian Universalists, we celebrate our children's transitions:
Child Dedication
When a little one comes into our community, her/his family may ask to have a naming or dedication ceremony created in his/her honor. It is usually performed on a Sunday morning before the congregation, but can be done any time mutually convenient to the family and minister. If interested, please call the Fellowship office for more information. A child of any age can be dedicated in this manner.
Flower Sunday
Our first and second graders explore their early days of change through a six-week curriculum. Every two years, these experiences culminate in a special Flower Sunday celebration. We honor our young ones as they experience "the glad surprise of growing inside." Our Fellowship celebrates the UU tradition of Flower Communion annually.
Coming of Age
Once every two years, we recognize our fifth and sixth graders as they begin their journey into adolescence. Through the voices of prophetic UU women and men, they examine the ideals and principles of Unitarian Universalism. This semester of inquiry includes a class trip, a ceremonial "Beginning Dinner," and their introduction to the congregation.
Passages
Alternating with the Coming of Age program, Passages challenges our seventh and eighth graders to create their own statement of belief. Development of their "credo" is supported through classes and special activities. They will forge a friendship with a caring adult mentor from our congregation, perform a service project, deepen their knowledge of our Unitarian and Universalist history, and develop a youth-centered service at which their credos are presented.
Senior High Graduation
Our senior high graduation ceremony blesses our senior youth as they bridge from
high school to young adults within our community.
