About the event

About the Film

We are proud to present a special screening of "Heightened Scrutiny," in partnership with the Gay Activist Alliance of Morris County (GAAMC). The film is a high-stakes documentary following fearless civil rights lawyer Chase Strangio as he battles at the Supreme Court. The film captures the fight for transgender adolescents’ access to life-saving healthcare, confronting a legal system under pressure and a media landscape that often distorts the reality of trans lives.

As we face an era of unprecedented legislative attacks, Heightened Scrutiny is more than a movie—it is an urgent call to action against bigotry and injustice.

Why This Event Matters Now

The national headlines are heavy, but the front lines are right here in New Jersey. Following the film, we aren't just going home—we’re getting to work.

This screening is a gathering point for local activists, healthcare providers, and community members to bridge the gap between national legal battles and our local reality. We are coming together to ensure that the "scrutiny" our community faces is met with a powerful, organized, and joyful resistance.

About The Event

The program begins with a screening of the 90-minute documentary Heightened Scrutiny, followed by a focused discussion on the specific legal and social challenges facing our community here in New Jersey. Beyond the film, this event serves as a call to action, offering attendees a direct opportunity to network with local organizations and join ongoing campaigns. Our goal is to move from witnessing to organizing—ensuring everyone leaves equipped with the tools, connections, and strategies necessary to turn inspiration into local impact.

Community Care & Accessibility

Organizing for justice requires a foundation of care. While this is a public event, we are dedicated to creating a space rooted in safety, respect, and solidarity for every attendee.

  • Gender-Neutral Bathrooms: Restrooms at the venue are gender-neutral, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and dignified space for everyone.

  • Physical Accessibility: Our building is fully ADA accessible [Optional: including ramp/elevator access].

  • Care Advocates & Quiet Space: Because this film handles heavy themes, Care Advocates will be on-site to provide emotional support or guide you to a designated Quiet Space if you need a moment to decompress.

  • Privacy & Photography: To protect the privacy of our community members and activists, we ask that you do not take photos or videos of the audience. A designated "Photo Op" area will be available for those who wish to share their attendance on social media.

  • Respectful Dialogue: This is a space for learning and organizing. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, transphobic rhetoric, or exclusionary behavior of any kind.
