Gateways Glitter and Song: OMG THE FOOOOD

Wasn’t it wonderful to get together at our 70th Anniversary Tea Party? Well - we’re all about dispelling the winter blahs so – we’ve got another party coming up!

Gateways Glitter and Song: A Capital Campaign Celebration
February 28, 2026, 6:30 – 9:30 PM

Diane Koslow took the prize for the best Tea Party outfit, but she told me she’s got a glittery dress to wear on February 28!

Our first article featured the music (showtunes and standards from First Take! A cappella quartet) – but today we are all about the food!

It will be fabulous – and sourced locally! Event attendees will enjoy cuisine curated by Rising Kitchens, a Morristown-based company that opens doors for local food entrepreneurs. Through Rising Kitchens, guests will sample elevated charcuterie by Cartisan, Mauritian samosas by Petite Île, and gourmet chocolates by Tea Time Chocolates. Each of these food ventures is a woman-, immigrant-, or minority-owned business based right here in our local community. Also local is our very own Chef Diana, who will contribute Asian-inspired specialties as well as canollis!

We start at 6:30 in the Terrace Room with Cartisan charcuterie, wine and soda, and you can start browsing the MUUF artists’ work that will be on display to be auctioned – silently but also live.

At 7:00, Chu Hall will open and there will be MORE food including the Samosas and Asian Delights from Chef Diana, and– and more art!!! Around 7:45 our Emcee Franklin will kick us off and take us to the live auction of two pieces (see next week’s newsletter for photos). Then at 8:00 Act 1 of First Take will begin!

At 8:45 there will be an Intermission where you can stretch your legs and grab desserts - artisanal chocolates, Chef Diana’s special cannolis, tea and coffee. Then an exciting live auction of Nina Nemeth’s beautiful donated piece.

Finally, around 9:15 you can settle in for Act 2 as you “fill in the corners” with sweets! We expect the evening to end up by 9:45.

Please get your tickets now before they sell out!

This IS a fundraiser, but as a member, you can pay any amount you want. You can contribute volunteer hours instead – or in addition. You can even go wild and pay a premium for a VIP ticket! VIP tickets include a preview with First Take in Chu Hall from 6:45 - 7:00 when the artists will take a break while we enjoy more deliciousness.

You can also sponsor an element of the evening (the chocolates are taken, and so is Chef Diana’s time and food, as well as general setup and staffing – but the samosas and charcuterie and covering First Take expenses are still opportunities for sponsorship! You or your organization will be recognized in the program.

How to Help with the Event

Yes of course we need volunteers with willing hands and skills to make this work – Green Aprons will help, but here’s a Signup Genius to sign up to help!

Mortgage Prevention

We have heard that golly, if we are down to needing $190,000 or less to completely avoid a Mortgage – shouldn’t we be satisfied? Isn’t that manageable? Obviously when the Board approved asking the Members to authorize a $4.5 million campaign to include a possible residual mortgage of up to $400,000, they had done calculations to show we could manage that amount. Now we are down to needing $190,000 or less, that would cost us about $19,000 per year for fifteen years.

But there are more important things we’d rather do! We need additional staff, such as a Communications Director, RE Assistant, Volunteer Coordinator or a Rental Coordinator… we won’t be able to carry a mortgage and realize these dreams.

Please sign up for Gateways Glitter and Song now! Invite your friends who love food, and art, and music.
