Democracy in Action at Morristown UU is less than 10 days away

Free, all-ages event features postcard writing, ranked choice voting activity, food, family activities and a screening of Lightworkers

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Community members are invited to take part in Democracy in Action, a free afternoon and evening of hands-on civic engagement, conversation, food and community on Saturday, October 10, from 3:00–8:30 p.m. at Morristown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 21 Normandy Heights Road, Morristown.

Participants may attend any or all of the day’s activities. Admission is free and all ages are welcome.

The event begins from 3:00–4:30 p.m. with nonpartisan Get Out the Vote postcard writing, giving participants an opportunity to encourage fellow citizens to vote through handwritten postcards.

From 4:30–6:30 p.m., “Rank the Desserts” will offer a fun, interactive introduction to ranked choice voting. Participants can learn how the voting method works and then put it into practice by ranking a selection of desserts.

Also from 3:00–6:00 p.m., attendees can participate in “Buy a Bowl, Give a Bowl.” For $10, guests can enjoy a delicious bowl of soup or chili while also donating a bowl to a person in need. Donations will benefit Table of Hope and Market Street Mission.

The evening concludes from 6:30–8:30 p.m. with a screening of Lightworkers, a film about activism, civic responsibility and how everyday citizens work to protect democracy. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s writer, director and producer, Bobby Roth.

Throughout the event, attendees can enjoy food, activities for children and opportunities to connect with local organizations focused on civic participation and community engagement.

Democracy in Action is organized by Morristown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in partnership with the League of Women Voters of the Morris Area, Team No Nonsense North Jersey, Voter Choice NJ and other community organizations.
