From Welcome to Belonging: Reclaiming Our Voice

For decades, the Morristown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship has been a sanctuary—a place where we believe that "all of who you are is sacred." But as our recent reflection revealed, staying a sanctuary requires more than just good intentions; it requires active, visible commitment.

We are officially embarking on the journey to renew our Welcoming Congregation status. This isn’t just about checking boxes or filing paperwork with the UUA. It is about living our Unitarian Universalist values out loud. In a world where the LGBTQ+ and TGQNB (Transgender, Gender Queer, Non-Binary) communities still face rising tides of erasure, our silence is not an option.

Why This Matters Now

Our faith calls us to the work of radical inclusion. By re-engaging with the Five Practices of Welcome Renewal, we ensure that:

  • Our Worship celebrates queer joy and honors the specific spiritual journeys of LGBTQ+ individuals.

  • Our Education keeps us sharp, humble, and informed about the evolving needs of our community.

  • Our Resources go where they are needed most, supporting local and national justice projects.

We Need Your Spirit, Your Voice, and Your Hands

We are looking for a dedicated team of "Welcome Catalysts"—members of the queer community and allies alike—to help steer this ship. Whether you have a passion for social justice, a gift for organizing events, or simply a heart that wants to ensure no one ever walks through our doors feeling invisible, there is a place for you on this team.

Take Action Today

We are planning our first strategy meeting for the end of April/beginning of May. This is your invitation to help shape the future of MUUF’s radical hospitality.

  • Email Us: Reach out to lgbtq@muuf.org to express your interest.

  • Spread the Word: Know someone in the Fellowship who is passionate about queer justice? Invite them to join us.

  • Reflect: Ask yourself, How can I help make our "unofficial" welcome a living, breathing reality?

Let’s move beyond the status quo. Let’s make our welcome official, intentional, and transformative.
