Update Your Realm Privacy Settings

In our continued effort to steward your personal information well, we want to share with you how your personal information is stored in our data bases. As many of you know, we use software called Realm. While it had a lot of promise, many people have found it difficult to use many aspects of it. We primarily (though there are some exceptions) use it for Giving, Children & Family Registration, and Member Management. It is currently also where you will find links to important documents. 

For member management, it is where our Member Directory is shared. If you need to find the contact information of a member and they have chosen to share it, you can find it there. Only Members can view this directory, visitors, friends, ect can not. 

By default, new accounts’ information is not shared with “Everyone.” If you want members to find your information, you would need to update your privacy settings. To Change these settings, log in to your Realm account. Click on your name in the upper right corner. Select “Privacy” from the dropdown menu. You can then change the the options. Here are your options with a little explanation. 

• Anyone in the church - This means that any Member can see your information.

• Leaders* & group/serving team members - Anyone you are in a Realm group with, not necessarily any group in the fellowship, only ones that use Realm as their primary organization (this mostly only children’s classes).

• Leaders* - All individuals who are leaders in Realm. Leaders include people assigned to lead a group/ministry area, serving team, and pathway/pathway step.

• Users with permission only - Only individuals who have permission to view profiles in Realm. This means users at an admin level with is currently Staff only. 

For this process, please select “Anyone in the church” or “Users with permission only” as they are the most accurate to how we are using this system. 

*Please note that we are currently working on a process to empower and train leaders to make sure that your information is secure. So there are not many users assigned as “leaders”. We will develop and distribute a process before using that role.

Google Groups The Groups listed above are Realm groups only. Most Adult programs and teams are using our Google Groups. These are our Groups associated with various @muuf.org email addresses. There will be more info about these soon.
