The Woven Faith curriculum invites 2nd through 4th graders to explore Unitarian Universalist theology through active, hands-on participation. Grounded in the core elements of Doing, Belonging, Becoming, and Making, the program honors children's growing capacity for ethical questioning, empathy, and deep connection. Throughout the class, students explore their place in the interconnected web of life and discover the value of building respectful, intergenerational relationships. They also practice the concrete, compassionate skills needed to repair harm when things go wrong, ultimately learning to celebrate the diverse tapestry of their community and recognizing their own power to make it more welcoming.
The class cultivates welcome, invites independence, and responds dynamically to the children's needs. At the heart of the classroom is a shared gathering space and a collaborative altar. Anchored by the flaming chalice and the class covenant, this central area provides a safe, consistent place for children to engage in group discussions, share opening and closing rituals, and display meaningful objects, natural items, and artwork that reflect their shared journey.
Because children in this age group thrive when given agency over their learning, the environment offers diverse exploration stations tailored to different interests and energy levels. Students can build teamwork and problem-solving skills in construction areas, engage in quiet reflection and mindfulness in dedicated reading and meditation corners, or process complex ideas through open-ended creative art shelves.
Finally, by proudly displaying their creations throughout the wider church building, the program ensures these young members know their voices, ideas, and presence are deeply valued by the entire congregation.
